Aztec Macahuitl
Aztec Macahuitlby Theresa Mather ![]() This is a machhuitl (or machuatl), a particularly vicious Aztec weapon. The sharp blades were devastating in the hands of a trained warrior; according to writings of the Spanish Conquistadors one of these could drop a horse with a single blow, leaving the dismounted Conquistador to receive the second blow. I painted the wooden handle, the rest of the recreation is the work of archaeologist Dr. Susan "Arizona" Gleason of Phoenix Obsidian Designs (www.obsidiandesigns.com). ![]() Would you like to support our contributors?
