Welcome to the first issue of EMG-Zine!

    Why EMG-Zine?

There are several ways to take that question why an e-zine, in an Internet already filled with e-zines? Or, - why 'EMG-Zine' instead of 'fantasy art -zine' or 'fantasy creative stuff -zine?'

Mostly, I have to admit that I did this because I wanted to. I wanted a monthly 'zine aimed at fantasy and science fiction creators - writers, artists, role-players... folks looking for advice on getting into the business (or staying in it!), or how to polish their craft. When I went looking for one, I couldn't find what I really wanted - so I made it myself, as an EMG offshoot. (Which is sort of how I find myself in most of my projects...) Hopefully it will be entertaining, educational, and more fun than a bucket of monkeys.

A huge and heartfelt thanks to all the people who have made this possible - first to my fellow editors, Megan Myers, who proofed everything, and Georgette Tan, who coordinates reviews, as well as the artboard members: R. Bail, Janet Chui and Liiga Smilshkalne. Thanks also to the columnists, who have made the commitment to monthly submissions: Marina Bonomi, Janet Chui, Annie Rodrigue, Ursula Vernon and Amy Waller! Much gratitude to our first feature writers: C.E. Murphy and Liiga Smilshkalne, and to all of the artists who submitted work for our gallery (and many of the graphics around the site), and our review writers. Our front page header is a crop from "The Magician" by Kiriko Moth. See the full piece in the gallery. The wonderful phoenix logo, "Phoenix and the Fire of Renewal," in the header is by Mark Dewey. Our wallpapers were made (on request, at the very last moment, because I'm a procrastinator, too...) by Deborah Grieves.

Most of all, thanks to you - anyone at all who gets a few moments of pleasure out of these pages I've put together. Please consider leaving some feedback, subscribing to our mailing list (below!), or even purchasing a subscription to EMG-Zine to help support the writers and artists who contribute.

Best wishes in this coming new year. May it be full of inspiration and creativity.

    Be well,
    Ellen Million
