Many thanks to everyone who made 2006 so positive! As a gift to all the subscribers to EMG-Zine who joined before June, you are getting an additional month to your subscriptions; we didn't have all the subscriber perks in place right away, so it only seems fair! Work on the EMG-Zine anthology has begun, and it will hopefully be available within a few months, and will contain a number of extras.
I also want to especially thank all the contributors! As a fledgling 'zine in our first year, I couldn't pay much (and still can't!), but you've still been willing to provide content and support. I can't give words to how much I appreciate that.
I'm not one for resolutions, but the new year is a good time to reflect on what went well in the past year, and what didn't go so well, and to use that information to make goals and plans for the coming year.
In that light, a whole lotta things are changing!
Payrates for EMG-Zine will be going up! Look for new guidelines when I re-open the rest of EMG on the 20th.
Clings will be discontinued. Though they were cute and fun, they were a hassle to make, with limited return, and among other things, required decent enough weather to spray on the coating, resulting in delays when it got cold (as it does tend to do here!). I have a fair amount of stock left, however, so they won't be leaving immediately - just a heads up that they won't be around forever, and I won't be restocking.
Matting will be integrated with the prints. I think a lot of folks missed the fact that I now offer matting services, so I'll be adding that to all the design pages that offer prints.
No longer exclusive! Artists may be pleased to know that the master contract for the giftshop will no longer stipulate that they cannot sell the same products with the same designs through other outlets. Reasons for this change include the fact that it was getting tough to police all the artists, and I didn't feel right doing it anyway - EMG has always been a place to try to help artists, not restrict them! Alas, new wholesale pricing is on the horizon as well - my fees were generous to the point of stupid, and there's only so long I can maintain that!
New Printshop services. The current EMG Printshop beta is going to be integrated into the lilypad (EMG artists backend) to greatly simplify my life.
Better Bookmarks. A new laminator in the office has ensured an increase in product quality!
More new designs. Submissions are being coded right now (no specific ETA, sorry!), and with the new system, they will be hours and hours less work for me, and will probably be able to stay more continuously open, allowing lots of new work to become available.
Coloring Books. I am currently backlogged on coloring books. Early last year, I lost the printer who had been printing them, and went searching for a replacement printer. After several dead-end adventures, I did find one, and am now working to get out-of-print coloring books reprinted, and the new coloring books that have already been compiled to them for proofing. They're a little slower than my previous 2-day turnaround with the local printers, but, hopefully soon we'll be seeing some new ones shortly.
Plus some more items, but I'd rather tackle these before making lots of other extravagant promises, so we'll see how they go. Besides, I'm on vacation until the 20th! Can't you tell?
