  • February: Pigs
    by Megan Myers

I've always liked the French word for pig. Cochon. It just has more zing to it, you know? Pig in English just doesn't have the same sound, especially considering most American childhoods involve Miss Piggy and Wilbur from Charlotte's Web. But I digress.

This month a few things to help ring in the Chinese New Year - the Year of the Fire Pig. There are some delightful piggy stories and artwork, Marina discusses the pig in myth, and Janet helps you clean out your sty - err, studio.

Of course, we also have columns by Ursula and Annie, and some film reviews for your reading pleasure.

Nicole Cadet also gives an in-depth walkthrough on creating a work of art, and if you feel the desire to make your very own huggable pig, Apis Teicher explains the plushie-making process.

We're always looking for future submissions. Currently we need submissions for our April issue. The theme is travel. If you're looking further into the future, our upcoming issue themes include music, sun, and computers. All the guidelines for submitting work can be found here, and please remember to use the contact form at the bottom of that page. **Please also note that you need to enter a valid e-mail address! We've gotten some queries through the forms that can't be replied to because the e-mail address bounces!**

February is a short month, so use it well! Happy New Year!

    ~Megan
