Nothing to see here...
Scherazadeby Valerie Joanne Higgins
Try two years and nine months of being told every night,
By a serial killer,
You'll be garroted at first light.
Then complain about writers' block.
She was pretty enough to turn a man's head,
But so were all the other sultanas,
The ones that were dead.
She survived by telling stories.
A new cliffhanger every dawn,
Intriguing enough to keep her alive,
To face yet another dawn.
One thousand and one Arabian nights,
Before Shahriyar could forgive,
Womankind for his first wife's betrayal,
And let Scheherazade live.
"As wise as she was beautiful."
It says at the end of the book.
Wise or not she certainly knew,
How to give a story a hook.
Yes it's a very old tale.
Probably not even true,
But if your life hung on your inspiration?
How would you do?
