EMG news for February 2008
February 2008 -- Ratsby Jennifer Broschinsky
Welcome to the February issue of EMG-Zine, where we celebrate the Chinese New Year and usher in the Year of the Rat!
In both China and Japan, rats are considered symbols of good luck and wealth. In Chinese astrology, the Rat is a creature of wit, quick and clever. Though the Rat can be greedy and tends to promote its own interests, it has a keen talent for collecting (and holding onto) wealth.
So in this issue we celebrate the Rat!
This month, Janet talks about stretching one's art supplies to make them last longer, Melissa demonstrates field sketching and its usefulness, Giovanna features the life and works of Sulamith Wulfing, Marina reviews the symbolism of the Rat, and Ursula Vernon talks about the rules of art – at least, the ones we make for ourselves. This month's features include a painting walkthrough and a continued tutorial on using The Gimp. We also have rat-themed poetry, fiction and comics!
If you would like to submit work for our April issue, the theme is Unicorns. Be sure to check the guidelines before you submit.
