  • September 2008 -- Blades
    by Jennifer Broschinsky

Welcome to the September issue of EMG-Zine! This month, EMG-Zine explores those mythical companions of our knights errant, Blades.

They are inanimate objects, but in myth and legend frequently have personalities of their own... and in science fiction and fantasy, have often become characters in and of themselves. The processes of their forging and the stuff from which they are forged even become things of legend. Why are they so fascinating? We explore some of that this month.

In this issue, Marina explores the history of blades in legend; Melissa Acker demonstrates working in mixed media; and Giovanna Adams explores the life and times of Lee Brown Coye. We also have the final installment of Elizabeth Barrette's fantastic series on Cyberfunded Creativity, plus blades-themed art, comics and poetry. Enjoy!

If you would like to submit work for the November issue, the theme is Ice, and the deadline is October 1. Please read the guidelines before submitting. Thanks!

Jennifer Broschinsky has, since her youth, filled her sketchbooks with things feathered and furred, winged and scaled. She is currently working on a sequential art story called Songseeker, and is working on raising three sons.
