  • March 2009 -- Selkies
    by Jennifer Broschinsky

Welcome to the March 2009 issue of EMG-Zine! This month our theme is the Selkie.

In legend, the selkie transforms from seal to human by removing its seal skin. Control its skin, and you control the selkie. Most stories of selkies are romantic tragedies, often with the selkie abandoning its human family and children for the sea -- or luring humans to the sea, never to return. Mysterious and sad, Selkie is our theme for this month.

In this issue, Ursula Vernon touches on working with others, Nicole Cadet talks about the process of analyzing your own work post-completion, and Giovanna turns her artist spotlight on Salvador Dali. Missy Acker walks through a multimedia piece of a selkie. We have guest features by Erika Harm and Cris Griffin. We also have selkie-themed poetry, fiction, art and comics. Enjoy!

If you would like to submit work for our May issue, the theme is Fire. Please read the guidelines before submitting.
