  • April 2009 -- Shells
    by Jennifer Broschinsky

Welcome to the April 2009 issue of EMG-Zine! This month, our theme is Shells.

When you're beach-combing, there's something magical about finding that shiny bit, that piece of opalescent shell, the something that was once a living thing now washed to shore. When you put it to your ear, you can still hear those faint echoes of the sea. They are treasures, reminders of the exotic -- and maybe something more.

In this issue, Ursula Vernon talks about working with gold leaf, Nicole Cadet weighs the pros and cons of being a Jack-of-All-Trades, and Missy Acker walks us through a colored-pencil piece of a shell dragon. We have guest features by Lorna Cowie and Lisa Victoria. We also have shell-themed fiction, art and comics. Enjoy!

If you would like to submit work for our June issue, the theme is Spiders. Please read the guidelines before submitting.

Jennifer Broschinsky has, since her youth, filled her sketchbooks with things feathered and furred, winged and scaled. She is currently working on a sequential art story called Songseeker, and is working on raising three sons.
