  • July 2009 -- Alice in Wonderland
    by Jennifer Broschinsky

Welcome to the July 2009 issue of EMG-Zine, where we wander through Wonderland with Alice!

Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland has had a great influence on fantasy, with its nonsensical narrative and whimsical creatures. The Cheshire cat, the Queen of Hearts, the Mock Turtle and the Caterpillar are familiar to many, and the artwork of Sir John Tenniel has influenced many a budding fantasy artist. And so we take our own little sojourn into Wonderland this month.

In this issue, Nicole discusses keeping up with your online presence without making it a full-time job; Constanza interviews artist Chris Malidore; Missy walks us through brainstorming a new piece and Ursula explains why the art she makes isn't necessarily what she likes on her walls. In a feature; Ellen discusses how to give criticism. We also have plenty of Alice-themed art, fiction, poetry and comics. Enjoy!

If you would like to submit work for our September issue, the theme is Indian Mythology (as in India, not Native American; we'll do that later). Please read the guidelines before submitting.

Jennifer Broschinsky has, since her youth, filled her sketchbooks with things feathered and furred, winged and scaled. She is currently working on a sequential art story called Songseeker, and is working on raising three sons.
