  • August 2009 -- Wizards
    by Jennifer Broschinsky

Welcome to the August 2009 issue of EMG-Zine! Our theme this month is Wizards.

The power behind heroes, the wielders of magic and repositories of wisdom and mysteries... Yes, we're talking about wizards. Often they appear as the archetypal wise old advisor, but sometimes they come in more unusual forms -- even as school children with spectacles. With or without their familiars, they wow us with their spell-casting and ancient knowledge... and this is what we celebrate at EMG-Zine this month.

In this issue, Ursula talks about her recent adventures in assemblage, Nicole describes some meditation techniques she uses to revitalize her creativity; Constanza interviews artist Karyn Lewis; and Missy walks us through the stages of painting a watercolor piece. We have a reprint of a feature from Ellen on the do's and don'ts of requesting free art from our hardworking artists. There is also wizard-themed art, fiction, poetry and comics. Enjoy!

If you would like to submit work for our October issue, the theme is Faery Court. Please read the guidelines before submitting.

Jennifer Broschinsky has, since her youth, filled her sketchbooks with things feathered and furred, winged and scaled. She is currently working on a sequential art story called Songseeker, and is working on raising three sons.
