  • Boot Camp Exercises
    by Ellen Million

    Listen up, maggots!

Darn it, don't make me get wet noodles and beat you people! Sit up straight, get your pencils sharpened, and go participate in the boot camps. No whining!

Every week, a new 10-40 minute exercises will be posted - one for artists and one for writers. It will involve minimal supplies and the aim is to stretch and inspire artists of all kinds. We've got our own spot in the EMG forums - come find the weekly boot camps and share your results!

We didn't get enough exercises to start a daily feature (also, I haven't learned the code to automate this yet...), so we're doing a weekly bootcamp. If you have a great, short artistic learning tip or exercise, please use the form below to submit it. They should be something that can be completed in 10-40 minutes, and involve basic art supplies - nothing fancy should be required. It can be a subject prompt, or a stream of consciousness-type exercise, even a visualization project. We are looking for both writing and art exercises.

For example: Set up a small, simple still life that includes three items - one of which is clear or glossy. Sketch them twice the size you would normally work for 30 minutes. This exercise will make you practice clear or shiny surfaces and work larger than you normally would!

Ellen Million has always had a passion for projects. Visit her site for prints and embarrassing archives.
